HAMPTON -- A driver who led police on a chase Monday afternoon was arrested in a copier room at Thomas Nelson Community College.
Around 4:15 pm, a State Trooper tried to stop a 2010 Toyota SUV for an HOV lane violation on Interstate 64 westbound.
Authorities say 23-year-old Ravi Marquise Banks of Williamsburg did not pull over and a pursuit began. ?The trooper followed the SUV? to the Hampton?Towne Centre shopping center, located at Hampton Roads Center Parkway and Big Bethel Road.
"We see the car come flying through, and we see the cops coming in behind him, and then stops the car. He gets out, and he runs across the parking lot," said Sandy Harris, who owns the Liberty Tax Service office in the shopping center.
Police followed Banks. who witnesses say ran across Interstate 64 to Thomas Nelson Community College.
"He was out ahead, and, then, he just jumped the wall and came across. Kind of amazing. One of my officers spotted him doing it," explained TNCC Police Chief?Kelvin Maxwell. "He came across the little barbed wire fence and we were on him from that point on."
Maxwell said Banks tried to hide under a car in the parking lot and then hit behind a copier in Diggs Hall.
Banks was charged wth the HOV violation, speeding, felony pursuit, obstruction of justice, possession of marijuana, and 3rd offense driving with a revoked license.
